Ski Resorts Opening.

Last week on Wednesday, November 12th, Killington Resort in Vermont opened for the season. Up north in Vermont and northern New Hampshire, they have been very lucky to get dumps of snow the past couple weeks, along with cold enough temps for snowmaking across many mountains. When Killington opened, there were only a few advanced trails accessed by gondola, but with another 11 inches of snow this week and cold temperatures during the day, they have opened 2 surface lifts and top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding. Up further north at Jay Peak and Stowe, they have been getting even more snow than Killington. At both mountains they have broken records for pre-season snowfall, with Jay Peak getting 40 inches of snow in 48 hours. Not many mountains have the same infrastructure as Killington, meaning most mountains are opening this weekend. This gives the mountains that weren’t as fortunate snow-wise to blow more snow and lets mountains that got dumped time to groom the trails and plow parking lots. My local mountain here in MA, Wachusett, is opening this Saturday as well. Even though they got very limited natural snowfall, there have been enough cold nights and days for them to have 4 trails for opening day. Overall, I am extremely excited for the ski season to come and surprised with the pre-season snowfall up north.
